Our cooperative is proud to present a project that celebrates and enhances the cultural riches of Sicily.
Through events dedicated to music, to poetry and traditional stories, We aim to rediscover the deep roots of our land, offering the community an exciting journey between history and traditions.
We promote Sicilian culture
Knowing and enhancing the cultural heritage of the area in which you live is equivalent to rediscovering your roots of belonging, almost as if you were leafing through the family photo album.
The project for the promotion of Sicilian culture through music, ancient poems and various stories, promotes knowledge of facts and events that help the community rebuild our cultural identity.
Sicilian cultural promotion, organized by us, it took place in a historic public building, i.e. the Eschilo Theater in Gela.
This was not a casual choice but rather a strongly desired one precisely because it is a historic building that can accommodate more than 200 seats so as to allow the community to participate and deepen their knowledge of the culture also through Sicilian songs, poems and stories.
Sicilian folk singing is very ancient because the Sicilian people are ancient; for each individual, of any ethnicity or religion, the singing is spontaneous and accompanies the various moments of the day, seasonal cycles. There are work songs (they were used in strenuous and manual jobs to make the work less burdensome, like spirituals for blacks) religious songs, ninne nanne, songs of love and passion, hence the choice to spread knowledge of Sicilian culture through a series of songs by the Sicilian singer-songwriter Rosa Balistreri.
Rosa herself sings about Sicilian events and traditions. He was ahead of his time and sang about a bigoted Sicily, violent, he sings about issues such as chauvinism and agreements between the mafia and the church.
But Rosa Balistresi through music also spreads ancient poems and prayers in Sicilian dialect which today are no longer recited... almost lost. Sicily was a land of dominion for many peoples, from the Greeks to the Romans, from the Carthaginians to the Arabs, from the Normans to the French and the Spanish.
Every dominator has integrated with the dominated, the conversations got mixed up, the professions, the songs, the poems, the nursery rhymes, religious songs; from the meeting of the primitive Sicilian-Sicilian civilization enriched by the Greek experience of the Hellenic colonies, and then by Roman culture, car , Norman, French and Spanish, in a word from this mass of peoples, of customs, of religions, Spoken Sicilian was born, a true language capable of expressing all the feelings of the human soul, from love to anger, from sweet lullabies to sad funeral songs, from serenades to lovers to epic stories of men or particular historical events, from children's songs to workers' songs.
This is how the poems and songs were born, sung first by the author and then sung by others as desired until the composer's single identity merged and became a collective identity.: popular song.
